Yes, I know this would normally be a skip week, but Dean's episode of Fantasy Island will air on January 9th and we'd be crazy to try and compete with that ;). This week's premise: It's New Year's Eve and Lois and Clark have decided to ring in 1999 by attending a party aboard Franklin Stern's yacht along with the usual suspects from the Planet and a sizable chunk of Metropolis's rich and famous. But things are hardly smooth sailing when hijackers threaten not only to harm the passengers, but destroy Superman as well. We would still like to hear from you if you have any story premises of your own that you would like us to explore together. You can either email them to me at: eraygun@aol.com Or better still, just bring your ideas with you when you join us this Saturday or for our weekly "story bouncing" sessions on Wednesdays on #L&CFicOrg, starting around 9:00 PM EDT. We generally meet Saturdays starting at 3 PM EDT and try to start writing fairly soon thereafter. You can come and join the fun at any time, however. We are usually there for several hours since writing a story takes time. Since #L&CFanfic is on occasion "invite only" please message if you want to join us. If an official "inviter" is designated, we will let you know. Some of us should be hanging out on #Loiscla. A note on procedure here ;) : When people need to be caught up on the story in progress after being bounced off IRC or just joining the session late, please try and avoid pasting the story directly into the channel window. Please do that in a private message or dcc-chat window instead. Hope to see you all there! I realize this is somewhat off topic, but since there are a ton of other writers on this list who, like me, are working to become better writers, I thought this might be of interest. I found a FABULOUS series of books at Barnes and Noble in their writing section (I'm sure other book stores would have it, as well). The series is called "The Elements of Fiction Writing", and the books are written by various authors. The first book I bought would probably be of more interest to those of us who are interested in becoming published writers. The book is called "Manuscript Submission" by Scott Edelstein. The description says: "How to put together a blue-ribbon, attention-getting query, proposal, or submission package that will sell your fiction to an agent or an editor." I've started reading through it, and it's a great book with a ton of invaluable information. Now, for those of you who are not necessarily interested in selling their stories, but ARE interested in reading books that will help you become better writers, there are (according to the back page of the books) about 35 other books in the series that deal with just that. I ended up buying several of them with the hoard of Barnes and Noble gift certificates I got from various ppl at Christmas , and I've been thrilled with them!! Most of these books are around 170 pages, and run about $15. I'm sure your local library would have access to them, though, if you want to read all of them, but, like me, can't afford to buy them all. For those who are interested, I thought I'd include a few of the other book titles that I thought sounded good, along with the authors and brief descriptions. I hope nobody gets mad at me for doing this , but I knew how excited *I* was to find these books, so I figured there would be other ppl out there as well who would be as interested as I am to know about this series. Keep in mind that there are a bunch of other great books in this series that might be of interest, but, in the interest of time and space, I'm not going include them all. :) VOICE & STYLE: Discover how to creat character and story voices. When Skippy, Mr. Webster, and the rest of the family came inside after finishing the morning chores, I served lunch to the family as Mrs. Webster looked on with a proud grin. I suppose she thought she was preparing me for life as a farm wife, and, unbeknownst to me, she was right. After Ruth and I cleared away and washed the dishes I heard a light knock at the screen door and was surprised to see Jonathan Kent standing there. "Hi," I greeted him.
