I used to be part of the online #L&CFanfic round robin group but can't participate hthere anymore. I miss corporate writing immensely and would like to try writing on an e-mail RR if there is going to be one. Please email me privately on this as I sometimes have trouble keeping up with the list. ;-p I hope to hear from you. doris at dorisschmill@gmx.net OR schmill@mail.students.go-on.net ========================================================================= Date: Sun, 29 Nov 1998 11:36:55 -0000 Reply-To: "Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman Fanfic" Sender: "Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman Fanfic" From: LabRat Subject: Re: nfic MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Okay, since I have a vested interest here - although I'm sure those most directly involved will have leapt to answer this one already...... *If* you are over the legal age of requirement in your country of origin to enable you to receive nfic then the most rewarding ways to get it are: Go to Zoom's main site and follow the messagboard links to the nfic sign up site. There you will find instructions to request a password for access to the MB. Sorry, I don't have the URL for the main site any more, as I access the board directly from my bookmark. Mail Debby (Stark) and ask to be put on her mailing list - age statement required. debby@swcp.com Lots of nfic is archived at Anne's Little Corner of Teh World (including mine own - thanks Anne!) - and it's collecting more by the day. Again, go to the main site and follow the nfic links for instructions on signing up to the password. http://www.simply.organised.simplenet.com/annesplace.htm Be advised that all of these people can sniff out a bogus request for password at 15 parsecs - better than a bloodhound on speed - so, if you are under the legal age - don't even *think* about it, kid. No idea is a *bad* idea, per se - it's how you run with it that counts. Unless you're a natural genius (and don't forget that this is always possible :D), you'll probably find that your first fanfic doesn't turn out half as well as you thought it would - just like the rest of us did - but don't let that stop you. Writing is a learning process - after 20 odd years, I'm still finding out how to do it better by the day - and most of all it's fun! Why not try what my friend, Lyndsay and I do? We each write a section of story (strict limit of two pages - but you could set your own limit as suits) and take turnabout on writing each one. We used to post or fax each section to the other, but now that we are both online, I suspect that one day soon we'll be exchanging by email. If you gather a list of participants in advance, start with your two pages (or whatever) and then send it to the next person on the list and so forth, just like a chain letter, you'll find a story emerging before you can blink. Good luck! I am looking for a dictionary on CD-ROM that will work with my screen access program and speech since I am a blind computer user. somebody has recmmended the Random House Unabridged Dictionary to me. It is out on CD ROM. However, since that gem is not quite inexpensive, I would need to know beforehand if it would work with speech. I am therefore looking for somebody who owns a copy of that dictionary on CD ROM. I would then ask the person to download a free demo of the screen reding program I use to find out if it does work with speech. You would need a windows 95 PC and a soundcard to try out the screen reading program. I would very, very much appreciate any help with this as writing without being able to use a dictionary is very, very frustrating and feels like being naked. As a language buff, I have always enjoyed the dictionary work about as much as the actual writing. As the discussion of screen readable dictionaries is probably not of general interest, please email me privately at: dorisschmill@gmx.net thanks for bearing with me. I hope there is someone out there who may be able to help. -- Of corse, if any of you use a different dictionary CD-ROM and would be willing to test if it works with speech, I would welcome that too. In general, in order to work with speech, a program needs to be accessible with menu and keyboard commands and allow navigation without a mouse, that is with only the tab and arrow keys. That means usually that programs with an all graphic user's interface don't work well with speech. anyway, I hope to hear from you. doris at dorisschmill@gmx.net OR schmill@mail.students.go-on.net ========================================================================= Date: Sun, 29 Nov 1998 15:18:12 -0500 Reply-To: "Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman Fanfic" Sender: "Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman Fanfic" From: Gillian B Tanz Subject: Re: Pictures in our minds) Hey Kathy :) Loved that fic you wrote, "Giving Thanks" ;-) I totally saw Jon as Jon Tenney. (what an interesting word) In Lois & Clark, Lois becomes very much a part of the Superman. She suggests the need for a change of clothes, comes up with the name, encourages Superman to continue by telling Clark that whatever Superman does is enough, and on and on throughout the series. Lois finding out the secret added, not subtracted, to Superman's opportunities. ("I take a few more risks, now that I know you'll always be there for me." Contact, I think.) When they work as a married couple, the strength of Superman seems to grow with Clark's happiness in the marriage. ("Superman is very happy now." line created by Dean Cain. The young, exuberant Wells who came to Superman for a little help with his time machine is a very different man from the sober, concerned friend who returned in Soulmates, and the grave elder who appeared in "Tempus, Anyone?", "Meet John Doe", and "Lois and Clarks". Like Lois and Clark, he grows through his experiences with them. This is one reason that I enjoy the Soulmate Chronicles. They show the many opportunities he has to learn from interacting with their love and adventures. I love that the last interaction the show provided, included a spark of the first. The little twinkle that the older Wells has as he promises that things aren't impossible for Alt. Lois to be found is definitely a tie in with the first appearance. My point being that the error in judgment does not sully his rep, but is just another step of growth. The growth of L&C characters is definitely part of the charm of the show. and again, for all your Ep Thoughts > >Thank you, Carolyn! > > And thank you back, I love getting answers and better ideas:) :) :) You're welcome for the thank you, the answers, and even the ideas, but I'm laying no claim to them being better. This sounds like a great idea to me. In fact, I had a similar idea a few months back when I was studying Hellenic festivals in my sport history class. It would be very interesting to see how an independent Lois would fair in a civilization where women were considered property. Homer's 'The Iliad' describes a set of funeral games held by Achilles, a precursor to the Olympic Games, in which women were awarded as prizes in certain events (and they weren't even first prize because they weren't considered that valuable). I can see it now, Lois's incarnation gets trapped into being a prize in a wrestling competition and Clark's incarantion, a competitor, wins her as his prize only to find that, rather than the docile slave that he had been expecting, she's a spitfire constantly getting into trouble whom Clark has no choice but to fall in love with. ;) >After all Kevin Sorbo was supposedly up for the role of CK with Dean >Cain. Oh, yes. I can definitely see some potential funny business here: "You know, Clarkus, that Hercules fellow reminds me a lot of you." "Really, Loisena? I don't see it." "I don't know, Clarkus. If I hadn't met you first . . . well, who knows?" "Lo-isena," Clarkus admonished "I'm just kidding. Lighten up. Hercules could never replace you." If you ever get around to making this fanfic 'fly,' let me know. I'll definitely be an eager audience! I don't know if you remember me, but I'm the Portuguese FoLC who was looking for the first episodes of the first season, since I completely missed them. I got some replies at the time from some of you (around two months ago) and I just wanted to thank everybody for their suggestions. Someone - I think it was Rowan - suggested to try the HMV store in London. I did and - guess what? - they had the first 12 episodes I was looking for! They arrived a week ago and I had a wonderful weekend viewing them. This was my antecipated Xmas gift to myself. As the last episode (Family Hour) was already televised - at least I'll have "new" eps to view besides the ones I already had. I really *hated* the way this ep ended...! It didn't have a "To be Continued" at the end, although we know it should have had. However, HMV does not have episodes of the other seasons. And this is what takes me to my S.O.S. request. I'm missing two episodes - Ultrawoman and Meet John Doe. Could anyone try to tape and send them to me, please...? I'm willing to pay for them. I wouldn't ask for help if I could find these eps without having to annoy everybody. It has to be PAL system, in order for my VCR to read it. In case either one of you is willing to help, you can send me a note directly (carvalho@lexmark.com). The (0/x) is beacuse I don't really know how many parts I will need to tell the story, and it may be over several weeks, so I'll repost (if allowed) to get it archived in one file...
