I have been a fan myself since the show started. A day doesn't go by, until I've had my dose of L & C. I think that all of you have worked very hard in trying to keep this special magic alive. I am truly sorry that the 5th season did not aire. I don't understand why they didnt at lease have a made for "TV" movie to pick up where the show left off. It makes me so unhappy that things were handled so sloppily and on the sly. I haven't had a chance to read all of the stories that have been written; but I will do so, you can be sure. Good luck to all of you for a very bright and creative future. I just wanted to tell you so. Thanks for making it possible for me to do just that. (Silly, I know, but I didn't want to impose on anyone by asking them to post this message for me.) Adrienne, I don't know why you apologized for sending your message regarding the "Kerth" nominations unless nominations are supposed to be done privately. Maybe they are, and I'm breaking some of the china here. However, since I am doing more than saying what fanfic I like, I'm hoping I'm not stepping on anyone's toes. Anyway, despite the fact that I haven't been reading much fanfic lately, I have read most of the ones you've mentioned and I just wanted to comment on your observations more than choose favorites. (Please note: My comments are not to be taken as personal slights against the authors. I figure, if you write fanfic, you've got to be willing to take the criticism just as any author in the real world would.) >>Geez Leanne -- don't you have enough on your plate already?<< Agree here. Leanne, you're a maniac! >Best Comedy You know, I don't think there have been many comedies. Or, maybe I just haven't read them. In any case, although Molly Herwood may not have meant it to be a comedy, I thought her n'fic "The Family Secret" was pretty funny. Or, maybe bizarre would be the right word. It caught my attention because it was so unpredictable. I didn't have a clue what was going to happen. (You must have been eating some mighty funny brownies at the time.) Anyway, when it comes to L&C fanfic, I really appreciate anything remotely original, because, when we're talking about hundreds of people writing from a limited universe with a limited range of characters who we all know so well, originality is the one thing terribly difficult to pull off. Oh, and being a good writer isn't a bad thing either. >Best Tearjerker Either Jeff's story about Lois' false pregnancy. I think it's called "Unknown Emotions". (Hey, Jeff ... that was a misnomer. You knew those emotions. And, I was pretty teary-eyed over it.) Or, Sheila's, "A Shot in the Dark" >Best Dramatic Story God, there are so many stories which could fit into this category that I couldn't even begin to suggest one. >Best Fanboy Story (action) Never read them unless they sneak up upon me, which of course, is very difficult for an action story to do. They're the "Wham, Bam, Thank You, Ma'am" of the fanfic universe. >Best Pregnancy/Delivery Story When You Needed Me Most - ELK< I'm not familiar with this one. Molly's story (the one I mentioned above) could fit into this category. Or Jeff's. Another that I liked was Anne's short nfic ,"New Dayz," although the baby was already born in that one. Never mind. >Best NextGen Story Aliens and Strangers - Susan Stone< Agree wholeheartedly. I like Susan's stories because they answer my first requirement -- originality. They take the characters and interject something we haven't seen or an element which sheds a different light on the characters -- In this story's case, it was religion. (Although, I would have liked her to get into more depth regarding what L&C taught their children about religion. -- I don't remember whether that was part of the story as I read it a long time ago -- e.g., Did they go to Sunday School? Did one of the kids respond to Jesus walking across water by saying, "My Daddy can do that!") I think this kind of thing would make for a *very interesting* exploration of the dynamics of raising kids who are the ultimate square pegs in round holes. >Best Rewrite I'm afraid this is another genre I generally don't read. I figure -- if the professional writers couldn't get it right the first time -- considering the megabucks they got paid doing it -- why should the rest of us "bat clean-up" for them. I almost find it to be an imposition! >Best Series 12 Nfics of Xmas/Dayz Series< Obviously, I thought Anne's series was good since I mentioned one story out of the series in another category. However, I also thought they were a bit repetitive. (Probably should not have read them in one fell swoop, but they were about sex and ice cream and its hard to be judicious.) On that basis, however, I would tip the balance in favor of Pam's "President Kent" series. >Best nfic One and Only - Gorn< Well, I won't argue that Gorn is quite talented. As a matter of fact, she was the impetus for my writing a few L&C stories of my own. Don't blame her; however, there was *never* a direct connection. Rather, I read one of her stories and thought, 'hmm, I wonder if I can do that?' In other words, my competitive streak took a peverse and unexpected turn. As for "One and Only," to be honest, I think that's her weakest story of the three I can recall. (I don't get the impression she is good at being sweetly sentimental.) The first story, "Consummate Revelation," introduced the idea of "an interesting past" for Clark, which was fascinating. (Loved that tribal interlude. Would have enjoyed reading a story just on that alone.) However, the story fell down at the end. Totally unbelieveable scene in the shower. Can't imagine doing what Lois did under similar circumstances, i.e., in the midst of recovering from drowning. It made me wonder who was more "Super", Lois or Clark! "Going, Going, Gone" was her strongest, and one of the best nfics. It creaked a bit for me during the "Martha giving advice" part, as that was a device with whiskers. (I know it's easy to roll Martha out when you need someone to offer pearls of wisdom because I did it in one of my own fics. How annoying to criticize someone for doing something you've done yourself!.) Anyway, the ending was a slam dunk. Therefore, "Going, Going, Gone" would be my choice as best nfic. >Best Fic Overall "The Thoughts that Bless" Ruth Ellison/Rufus I think Ruth is a very good writer and I respect her, but I have a love/hate relationship with wholly introspective stories (my own name for them and maybe a category all unto itself) for which she is most known, I think. There's a part of me which finds them interesting because I can't write them. In fact, after reading some of these stories, I begin to wonder if I've *ever* thought about the characters. However, I also get impatient with them. I can hear myself saying "Get off the 'couch' and do something!" In this fanfic's case, the characters were actually on a couch. Very clever -- if intentional ;). Ultimately, the introspective story leaves me feeling as if I've dropped in on the middle of a conversation -- a three-way conversation between Lois and Clark and the author -- and I'm completely lost. Frankly, with 100's of fics, I know I haven't read them all and would be hard pressed to pick an overall best, since there might be a real gem out there that I have yet to dig up. Of the ones I have read, here are a few that have stuck in my memory: Molly's "The Family Secret," Susan's "Aliens and Strangers," Jeff's "Unknown Emotions," Sheila's "A Shot in the Dark," Chris' "Love Beyond All Measure," Gorn's "Going, Going, Gone," Piper's "The Heir," Margaret's "The Rules". Admittedly, none of these were written yesterday. I know I'm behind. I suppose it might be easier to break down the fanfic universe into years and pick the best of the year -- especially since it would compare the work which was written around the same time, during the strange evolution of this show. That's a task for "better men" than I. Thanks for your indulgence. Again, I apologize if I've stepped out of line. I really liked the first two seasons, but after that the goofy, outrageous actions took over the relationship drama that made it most interesting. I would enjoy writing stories set in the first two seasons, or try to write that way about later points, so is there a reason not to do so? (I hope that's not offensive. I'm a BIG Superman fan in general, but the series worked much better as a relationship drama than as a rewrite of the 50's series, I think.) Also, are only certain people allowed to write, or is anyone given free reign? How about the "nfic" stuff. Not that I'm interested in writing only "adult" material, but as an adult, I realize this is sometimes useful to a story. But here are = the rules of this list as I understand them to be: 1. Anyone can write fanfic and post it to this list. I look forward to = reading yours. 2. People write fanfic based on or taking off from whatever part of the = show they like best or feel most strongly about at the moment -- there's certainly no rule that says that because in the show they're married now, we can only write stories with them married. If you want to write a Season 1 or Season 2 story, by all means, go for it! (or Elseworld, or Alt-universe, or... my goodness, the possibilities are endless!) 3. This list is only for stories rated G and PG (maybe up to PG-13 -- someone help me out here). There is a separate mailing list which you can subscribe to for nfic, by writing to debby@swcp.com and assuring her that you're 17.9999+ years old. We do occasionally discuss nfic on this list, but we don't post nfic stories to this list. In any case, since this is a list both for "BIG Superman fans" and for people who love to read, write, and discuss fanfic, you're definitely in the right place, so again, welcome. :) Peace A FoLC Named Peace is settling into a new home! Okay, I think I should just hit send before I lose my nerve. Send comments, please. I hope you like it! :> Chocolate Milkshakes by: Michelle Glenn "Oh, no!" Lois screamed as her new blender took on a life of its own, ejecting the lid and spewing chocolate milkshake everywhere. In less time than it took Clark to change out of his Superman suit, Lois was covered in chocolate. "Mmm, not bad." She thought as she wiped some chocolate off her blouse with her finger and placed it in her mouth. Clark had been watching "I Love Lucy" in the bedroom upstairs and flew from his seat, landing at Lois's side before Ricky Ricardo could finish saying "Luuucy!" "Lois, what's wrong?" Clark asked, not really needing an answer as he looked around him and saw Lois standing by the counter with her feet in chocolate. The color of the counter seemed to turn a shade of brown as the chocolate coated its surface. Barely containing a laugh, he asked, "Cooking, again?" His eyebrows rose in that annoying way they always did when she had a domestic disaster. "I was making a chocolate milkshake. Now that you've had your fun, would you mind turning that thing off, or blow it up or something!!" Out of the corner of his eye, Clark noticed that the blender had not yet been turned off and was continuing to send spurts of milkshake around the room. "Oops" he said as he walked from his position in front of Lois to reach behind her and unplug the blender. "What happened to 'Eggs a la Katie Banks'?" he asked as he turned Lois around to face him. Refusing to look into his eyes for fear of seeing the look of laughter that she knew was hiding there, she said, "Well, the eggs are on the ceiling, and the floor, and the walls, but I think Katie Banks has left the building." Clark almost fell over laughing, until he realized what she had just said. "Hold on a second. You put eggs in a chocolate milkshake?" Clark raised his eyebrows slightly and tilted his head waiting for an answer. "Well, yeah, you're supposed to..." she paused, "Aren't you?" Clark shook his head as he said "No", controlling the desire to say, "Well, duh!" Somehow, the unspoken words had not gone unnoticed and Lois suddenly went on the defensive. "You always put eggs in those crazy drinks you make!" She poked a finger on his chest and moved her hand to push him slightly and said, "Don't you start laughing at me!" "I wouldn't dream of it." He tried to keep a poker face but failed miserably, " Lois, those are high protein, high fiber energy shakes, not milkshakes." "Oh." was about all she could say before Clark broke into a colossal laughing fit. "Clark! Stop that! It's not funny!" All she got in return was a rather loud laugh from her very hysterical husband. Sighing and rolling her eyes, Lois decided the direct approach was called for. She poked him in the ribs several times in a vain attempt to stop his laughter. Instead he just laughed harder and grabbed Lois around the waist pulling her down onto the floor and proceeded to tickle her until she was blue from laughing. Lois tried to catch her breath in between tickles, but only managed to say, "Oh! Clark!...Stop!...Stop!!!" "First you have to beg for mercy." "Clark Jerome Kent, I am going to kill you!" "Not until I stop tickling you, you won't, and besides all the Kryptonite is at Star Labs." "Cute, Kent" Lois managed to say while struggling to speak between giggles. "Real cute!" "Go ahead, Lois, you can do it! A simple grovel, that's all I'm asking for" "Clark!" "Yes, Lois my love?" Lois, still trying to catch her breath, decided that since the direct approach didn't work she had to resort to more drastic measures. "If you don't...let me up...I'll never...make love to you... > again!" "Hey, now you're just playing dirty!" Clark pouted as he ceased the tickling. "Maybe, but it got me what I wanted!" "Speaking of dirty...you're a mess, Lois Lane. Rolling around in all this chocolate stuff." Lois caught her breath at the look in his eyes. Clark leaned over and wiped the chocolate milkshake off her cheek with his finger. "I wonder what it tastes like," Clark continued. He put his finger in his mouth, and smiled his approval. "Any good?" asked Lois, still breathless. "Very good," Clark replied. "Putting eggs in milkshakes must have been one of Katie Bank's secrets. Let's see -- I'm greedy -- and there's some more back here." He pushed her hair out of the way, and began to slowly lick the chocolate off her ear. Lois looked at her chocolate covered hand and raised it too Clark's face, leaving a chocolatey-brown smear across his chin. Although earlier she hadn't been able to budge him, a gentle shove was all it took now to roll him off her and onto the floor beside her. Raising herself up on her elbows, Lois gazed hungrily at Clark. "I want a taste, too," she said, as she leaned towards his chin. ****************************The Next Day******************************** As Lois and Clark walked out of the elevator into the Daily Planet news room, they saw Jimmy looking rather forlorn. They made their way around to Jimmy. He was sitting in one of the chairs at the top of the ramp. "Hey, Jim! What's up?" Clark asked his friend. "Nothing. I just was really in the mood for a strawberry milkshake and the guy at the deli gave me chocolate. Say, where have you two been?" "We stopped for lunch after Lois tried to eat all the stuff we got for Bobby Bigmouth." Clark answered as he looked at Lois in an accusatory manner. She chose to ignore him. "Mmm, chocolate, really?" Lois said as she licked her lips and glanced sideways at Clark. "If you don't want it, I'll take it, I love my..." "Sure, here. Take it." Jimmy said as he handed the drink to Lois. As Lois and Clark walked towards their desks Lois reached up to Clark's ear and whispered "Of course, they're much better with a little Clark Kent on the side." She seductively nipped his ear as they continued their way to their seats. Walking closely behind them, unnoticed, Jimmy nervously laughed "I really wish I hadn't heard that!" Walking away from the couple he couldn't see Lois's face turn a beet red or Clark's rather amused grin. Lois, however, recovered rather quickly from her embarrassment and took Clark's hand into her own. Placing a kiss on his fingers she whispered, "Next time, let's try vanilla!" All eyes turned towards Lois and Clark, as the star reporting team of Lane and Kent suddenly burst into a fit of laughter. "That was a lot of fun, Clark. Thanks." "No problem, Lois. I had fun, too. Sometimes, it's good to just go and do something crazy. It keeps you from being crazy all the time." Lois laughed. "Yeah, I guess that's true. I haven't done something like that in a long time. I guess I just don't want this evening to end. Do you want to come over for a while?" "Sure, that'd be great." Clark tried not to sound as excited as he really was. He was batting a thousand tonight! It was little things like this that made him think she was really starting to love him, the way he loved her. He was having such a good time tonight, too, and he wanted to savor these moments for as long as he could. Being with Lois like this was just...right. It felt so good to be able to talk to her when she let her guard down. And times like these were so rare. They went inside the parking lot for Lois' apartment building and parked the car. But as Clark was getting out, a tragedy occurred. He was carrying a bag with his clothes in it because he had left it in Lois' car, assuming that she'd drop him off at home and that they wouldn't go back to her apartment. The bag got caught on the door frame. All his clothes spilled out...right into a mud puddle! "Oh...Oh, great!" He rolled his eyes heavenward. "This is just wonderful." At the look on his face, Lois couldn't help but laugh a little. "Oh you think this is funny? Stop laughing! This is not funny!" The serious face he was trying to hold disappeared and was replaced by laughter. "It's not funny!" he exclaimed, even as he laughed, trying to sound offended and failing miserably. "It's okay, Clark, you can use my washing machine. Now come inside. And you might want to re-tie your coat, or you're going to get some really weird looks." Clark pulled the coat around him with a mock-haughty flip of his head and tried to look distinguished, which caused Lois to laugh even more. They went inside Lois' apartment and took off their coats. They took one look at each other and burst out laughing again. "This calls for a camera!" exclaimed Lois. "Okay, but you put the picture on your desk, and I'm going to have to kill you." "Deal." Lois went to get a camera. She set it up with a timer, then ran over to Clark. He put his arm around her shoulder and they grinned into the camera as the picture was taken. Lois pulled away. "Now we've got to get some crazy ones." "You mean potential blackmail material, right?" "That's exactly what I mean! Hang on, I can set the camera to take a picture every 45 seconds, and we can do like a photo shoot kind of thing." "Okay, if you want." "Yeah, I want." "Okay then." "Okay." "Okay." "Okay." "Okay." "Okay stop! Aaaah!" They burst into laughter again. Lois set the camera and walked over to Clark. In the first picture, they stood two feet apart and bent over to kiss, their lips just barely touching. *click* For the second picture, they grabbed hands and flung their free arms out like they were finishing a dance. *click* Clark pulled Lois close to him and they glared at the camera. *click* Lois twirled around in his arms so they were both facing the camera, Lois in front of Clark. She tilted her head to one side and Clark lowered his lips to her neck. *click* Lois moved in back of Clark and pressed up against him tightly, like two sardines in a can. *click* She faced him, jumped up, locked her legs around his waist and flipped upside down, so they were both facing the camera, but she was upside down, and they were connected. *click* *click* Clark grabbed her hand and pulled her back up again before she fell on the floor. Her legs still locked around his waist, she threw her arms around him and they looked at the camera, cheek-to- cheek. *click* She moved one hand to trace a finger over his chest. *click* Clark moved his hand over her leg. *click* Lois leaned forward an inch for a tender kiss. *click* He pulled her in even tighter against him (if that was possible) as her kiss became more passionate. *click* *click* His lips moved to her earlobe. *click* He whispered something to her about maybe shutting off the camera. *click* He walked over to the camera, he and Lois still in a tight clinch. *click* The last shot was of Lois' hand heading towards the camera, turning it off. Lois got down for a second, to pull Clark to the couch and down on top of her. He seemed to hesitate as she tried to bring him to her. "Please, Clark," she said. "Lois, you have to know..." he broke off for a second as he was pulled down. Lois started unlacing the top of his outfit, kissing him passionately. "Lois, I'm Superman." She pulled back suddenly, for a second, startled by his revelation. Then she resumed her untying of the laces. "Mmmm. Double fantasy." "It doesn't matter to you?" He pressed his lips to her neck and trailed kisses down her neck and collarbone. "No..." The reply was drowned in a soft moan as she responded to Clark's passion. That was all he needed to hear. He started to untie her outfit, taking the laces out swiftly... There was a loud knock on the door. And then another. It startled them, and they jumped up. Lois ran into the bedroom and grabbed two robes. She put one on and handed the other to Clark. Luckily, she liked to wear them big. They stood for a second, catching their breaths. Lois smoothed her hair back and Clark put on his glasses. Opening the door late was better than opening it looking like they'd been...doing what they'd been doing. Lois unlocked the locks and opened the door to see Dan Scardino. "Dan! What are you doing here? It's late..." "Lois, I had to talk to you. Can I come in?" "Well, actually..." She broke off as he walked in anyways and saw Clark, standing there uncomfortably, in Lois' bathrobe. Dan looked back at her and noticed that she was also wearing a bathrobe. "What's going on?" he asked, rudely. It was, of course, none of his business. "It's not what it looks like, Scardino," Clark began. Lois raised a hand to stop him. "Clark, you don't have to protect my reputation, which I know you're trying to do." Then she addressed Dan. "Dan, this is *exactly* what it looks like. I told you not to come in. I knew you wouldn't like what you saw." "Lois, how could you?" he asked, partially hurt, but mostly angry, and embarrassed that he apparently hadn't been man enough for her. "I've got everything he's got, only better. You could've had me. How could you settle for less?" But before she could answer, he turned around and left, slamming the door. Lois turned to Clark. "I'm sorry, Clark." "It's okay, Lois." "I can't believe I ever liked that arrogant..." Clark put his hand on her shoulder and smiled at her. "It's okay, Lois." She wrapped her arms around him and they fell to the floor and made love right there in her living room. He stared at me And I felt a change Time meant nothing Never would again. Let's do the Time Warp again! Let's do the Time Warp again! The next day at the Planet, Lois and Clark were both, well, distracted, to say the least. Clark was busy trying to work at his desk, and Lois had just given up at the same task. She walked over to him and sat on his desk. "Hi." "Hi yourself." He grinned at her. "Getting any work done?" "Nope." "Me neither. I can't get my mind off last night. That was...incredible." "Mmmmm. It was." She took his hand and kissed it. Then she glanced around self-consciously. "Better at least pretend I'm working." She went back over to her desk and opened a file on her computer. She started typing very slowly, and with a lot of errors. About an unproductive hour later, Jimmy walked by. "Hey, Lois, do you have any film? I've got a new developing technique I'd like to try." Unthinkingly, she reached into her purse and handed Jimmy the most recent roll of film that she had finished and was going to have developed. "Here you go, Jimmy. Just don't ruin them, okay?" "I can't ruin them totally, I just want to see if I can make the quality better. Bye! I'll have them done in 45 minutes or so." Fifteen minutes later, Clark got up and walked over to Lois' desk. "Get anything done yet?" "Still nothing." "Oh, what did Jimmy want?" "He wanted a roll of film to develop." "Did you give him one?" "Yeah." "Um, what roll of film did you give him? I hope it wasn't..." Lois looked up at him, alarmed. "*Was* it?" Lois swallowed. "Oh, this is really bad. Really, *really* bad." "Lois, you *didn't*!" She looked up at him guiltily. He cringed. "I'm sorry, Clark. I didn't mean to." "No, that's okay, Lois. It was an accident." He looked at her face, which was a picture of remorse and embarrassment. He cracked a smile. "And it *is* kind of funny, if you think about it." Lois grinned ruefully. "I guess it is." "I just hope Jimmy isn't scarred for life." "Oh, he's probably seen worse in magazines and movies." "Yeah, but that's not the same as seeing your two best friends..." "Well, at least we'll have the pictures." "Yeah." They both went back to work. Well, at least back to what they had been doing, which you couldn't exactly call work. A half an hour later, Jimmy walked over to Lois, a shocked expression on his face. "Um, here's...here are your photos, um, Lois," he said, his voice rather shaky and unnaturally high. He handed them to her, an almost fearful expression on his face. Clark came over as Lois took the photos from Jimmy. Jimmy regarded Clark with the same look he'd been giving Lois, and then made his escape with an excuse about checking the copier paper. Lois looked through the photos, with Clark looking over her shoulder. They were very nice photos, all 18 of the ones they had taken last night, plus the few others she had taken. Jimmy's new technique had worked nicely. Clark put his hand on Lois' shoulder. "I don't think he's ever going to look at us the same way." "Well, we're not the same now. Newer and better things have developed." She gestured with the pictures. Clark groaned at the pun and went back to his desk. With a bit of the mind flip You're into the time slip And nothing can ever be the same. You're spaced out on sensation Like you're under sedation! Let's do the Time Warp again! Let's do the Time Warp again! THE END!!! And wandering the planet's face, Some insects called the human race Lost in time, lost in space, And meaning... Please tell me what you think! DEVELOPING A RELATIONSHIP by Susan VanCott (Kirshnera@aol.com, Kirshnera on the IRC) Clark walked over to Lois' desk. "Hey there, Lois. You busy?" "Not really. Why?" She smiled up at her grinning boyfriend. Hmmm. Boyfriend. She rather liked the sound of that. "I just wanted to know if you had something going on on Friday night." "Nope." "Well then, would you like to do something with me?" "Sure. What?" "It's a surprise, but I promise, it's really really fun." "I don't like surprises, Clark." "I know. Just give it a chance. It's a ton of fun." "Okay. I guess. But this uses up your quota of surprises." *Not quite, Lois,* he thought. But he said, "Okay, I'll pick you up at seven. Is that good?" "Fine. What should I wear?" "A t-shirt and jeans would be fine." He could have said 'anything', but he knew she wanted a real answer. "All right then. It's a date." Clark broke into his patented charming/disarming smile, and Lois melted. That smile always made her feel so good inside, especially when she was the reason for it. That Friday at 6:00..... Lois pulled a pair of jeans out of her dresser. She tossed them on the bed and kept looking. She knew they were somewhere in there. Finally, she located what she'd been looking for. It was a pair of designer jeans with lace on top of the denim. They were nice and form-fitting, just like the low- necked t-shirt she had chosen. She put them on and stood in front of the mirror. She looked pretty good, if she did say so herself. She wondered what Clark was planning, and what he would be wearing, unabashedly hoping that it was tight. Clark was wearing a snug pair of faded jeans and a grey sleeveless t-shirt that showed off his muscles nicely. He didn't put much thought into his outfit, because he knew that what he was wearing wouldn't matter at all. He started packing the things they'd need for the evening into a large bag. Everything was ready by 6:45, when he went to get Lois. Just as she was putting her second small gold stud into her ear, Lois heard a knock on the door. There was Clark, standing there with a bag of stuff and looking gorgeous, per usual. "Come on in. What've you got there?" "There are just some things we'll need. We can do this without them, but it's more fun this way. Here, let me show you." He set the bag on the kitchen table and started taking things out. The first two items he took out were matching... outfits? The top was a leather corset-like piece, attached by the sides to a black brief/panty, attached to garter belts. And the outfits were obviously in Lois and Clark's sizes. Lois raised one eyebrow. Maybe Clark wasn't as mild-mannered as everyone thought. And when the next items he pulled out were rubber gloves, she had to say *something*! "Clark, exactly how much *fun* were you planning on having?" She looked at him suspiciously. Clark just laughed and took some more stuff out of the bag. Party hats, noisemakers, two slices of toast, flashlights, a deck of cards, newspaper, small water guns, confetti, rice, and Scott brand toilet paper. Lois had no idea what was going on. At least, not until Clark pulled out an ad for a theater nearby. In big letters, it read "THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW in 3-D!" "Oh! We're going to see the Rocky Horror Picture Show?" "Yup. What did *you* think we were going to do with all this stuff?" "Let's just say I though maybe your mild-mannered reputation was just a tad wrong." Clark laughed, and Lois joined him. "Seriously, Lois, I sort of just got these, um, leather...things to see your reaction. We don't have to wear them. I don't think everybody's going to be dressing up. If you want to, though..." "If I wear it, will you?" It was sick, she told herself, but she really wanted to see Clark in that little outfit. "Yeah, I will. That's why I've got my trench coat here." he grinned and asked hopefully, "Are you going to wear it?" Even if she wasn't going to, the note of hope in Clark's voice would have changed her mind. *So, sounds like Clark wants to see me in this as much as I want to see him wear it!* She picked up the smaller of the two outfits and walked into the bedroom to change. "You can change in the bathroom, if you want," she offered. He picked up the outfit. "Okay." He walked into the bathroom. He put it on and looked into the mirror. Hmmmm. He was suddenly rather glad for the trench coat he'd brought. Lois was wearing the outfit's twin and looking in her bedroom mirror. She twisted to see what it looked like from other angles. She smiled. This was going to knock Clark's socks off, especially with the fishnet stockings, pearl necklace, and high heeled red shoes she'd added to complete the costume. Clark had walked out of the bathroom and into the living room. "Lois, you ready?" he called. She walked into the room and stopped dead in her tracks. "Oh, Clark, you look... you look *fabulous*!" "Lois, all I can say is...wow." There was such power in that small word, the way he said it, that it gave Lois a little thrill. Clark, realizing that he was staring, forced his eyes away. "We, um, we should, um go soon, if we want to get there in time." He turned around to go into the kitchen and get the rest of the stuff. Lois would have giggled as he bumped into the kitchen table, obviously entranced, except, well, he was turning around, and well...her insides were suddenly tied up in knots. Clark put on his coat and helped Lois with hers. In doing so, his hand accidentally brushed her shoulder. The simple touch covered Lois in goosebumps. She pulled her coat around her tightly. "What time does the movie start?" "We've got half an hour." "Oh, good. That's plenty of time to get there. It's at the Landmark, right?" [that's a theater in Syracuse, NY that does the show every year. It's really a gorgeous old place, very ornate.] "Yeah." "Okay." They walked out to Lois' car and got in. She drove, of course. As she turned the steering wheel, her mind wandered a little off course. She almost couldn't believe the fact that Clark had actually planned this. First of all, Clark wasn't the kind of guy who would normally dress in something like that at all, much less in public. (of course, she wouldn't normally do it either, but here she was...) Secondly, 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' wasn't exactly the kind of movie Clark would like. The whole thing was about transvestites from another planet! It was funny, but it was still kind of disgusting. At least, Clark hadn't gotten the entire outfit worn by Tim Curry! She couldn't picture him in fishnet stockings, high heels, a huge gaudy pearl necklace, and a feather boa. Clark was way, way too masculine to dress as a girl. Actually, the outfit looked drastically different on him than it did on Tim. The actor looked rather feminine in it, but Clark, well, it just highlighted his manly figure. [This was a topic of discussion one Halloween, while trick or treating with some friends.] When they got to the theater, they found good seats in the center, near the front. They stood for a second. Clark caught Lois' eye, raised his eyebrows, and exhaled heavily. "Here goes," he said with a small laugh. He and Lois took off their coats, amid many catcalls and whistles. Everybody in the theater applauded them, much to their embarrassment. They sat down, faces red, and grinned ruefully. "Maybe this wasn't such a hot idea," Clark said. Lois glanced at his largely exposed body. *Actually, 'hot' doesn't even come close...* But she *said*, "Oh, come on, Clark. We're going to be the life of the party!" He laughed. "We sure are! Just wait 'til the Time Warp!" "I have never done that dance in a big group before." "Really? It's a lot of fun, especially if everybody can do it. And it's not too hard, so most people should be able to." They made small talk until the movie began. As the very interesting theme song ended, Clark opened the bag of rice so that it would be ready. As Brad and Janet, the movie's main characters, threw rice at a couple's wedding, so did Lois and Clark. The whole movie theater was filled with flying rice. In the next scene, Janet took a newspaper and put it over her head as she and Brad got out of the broken down car during a dark and stormy night. Lois and Clark sported fashionable copies of the Daily Planet and got out their water guns, ready to make a "rainstorm" in the theater. Clark pointed to the people on the balcony. At first, Lois didn't get what he was pointing at, but then she realized that the people there had a bucket of water. [This is not allowed in most theaters that show the movie, but some people do this.] So when it came time to simulate the rain, the people under the balcony got totally drenched. Clark, laughing, turned to Lois. "Those lucky dogs! They got the best seats in the house!" "That's not nice, Clark. Those poor people!" "Don't worry, Lois. They knew what they were doing when they sat there. It's all part of the fun. See, look how much they're enjoying being soaked." True enough, the drenched people were up and about and having a grand old time. "I guess so. What's next?" "Flashlights." Clark handed her one. "Wait for the right verse." "Gotcha." As Brad and Janet sang, "There's a light over at the Frankenstien place...", all the people in the theater turned on their flashlights and waved them around. A couple minutes later, after the characters went inside the creepy old house, the audience screamed, "Show us your mother, Riff-Raff!!" as Riff-Raff opened a casket, revealing a skeleton. "All right! Now it's time for the Time Warp!" Lois whispered. Everybody got out in the aisles as the song began. It's astounding. Time is fleeting. Madness takes it's toll. But listen closely Not for very much longer. I've got to keep control. I remember Doin' the Time Warp Drinking Those moments when The blackness would hit me And the void would be calling Let's do the Time Warp again! Let's do the Time Warp again! Then everyone followed the instructions in the music. It's just a jump to the left. And then a step to the ri-i-i-i-i-ight! Put your hands on your hips. And bring your knees in tight! But it's the pelvic thrust They really drive you insa-ay-ay-ay-ay-ane! Let's do the Time Warp again!!! On the "insane", Clark picked Lois up by the waist and spun her around. On the last line [3 beats, on: let's, time, again] he grabbed her hand on the first beat, she twirled into his arms on the second beat, and he dipped her quickly and deeply on the third beat. After the last verse, the song was over, and everyone froze and collapsed on the floor. [this is fun, but can be painful if you don't watch where you're falling] For a full 30 seconds, Lois enjoyed the feel of being under Clark, wrapped in his arms. Reluctantly, they stood up with the characters on the screen and the people in the theater. Both thinking about their recent nearness, they almost missed it when they were supposed to throw confetti and rattle noisemakers as Dr. Furter and his android headed for the bedroom. But they remembered to throw the toilet paper in the air [remember- it's gotta be Scott!] when Brad exclaimed, "Great scott!!" The next "action" was during Rocky's [the android Frank N. Furter created] birthday party. Frank proposed a toast, and everyone threw pieces of toast into the air. No butter, of course, as it was against the rules. They put on their party hats as Frank put one on Rocky. It was very near the end of the movie, and Frank's servants informed him that his mission was a failure and that they were now his commanders. They ordered him to prepare the transport beam. Frank was so happy about going home, that he sang a song. On the day I went away. (good bye) Was all I had to say. (Now I I) I want to come again and stay. (Oh my, my) Smile and that will mean I'm there. 'Cause I've seen oh! blue skies! Through the tears in my eyes And I realized I'm going home. (I'm going home.) Everywhere, it's been the same (Feeling) Like I'm outside in the rain. (Wheeling) Free to try and find a game. (Dealing) Cards for sorrow, cards for pain. At this point in the song, Lois, Clark, and the other moviegoers threw cards around the room in honor of Frank N. Furter's sorrow and pain. Unfortunately for the happy alien, after he finished singing the chorus one more time, he was killed. The other aliens did not mean that he was going home with them, they just meant that *they* were going home. And soon, Lois and Clark went home. ========================================================================= Date: Fri, 27 Feb 1998 21:18:18 -0800 Reply-To: "Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman Fanfic" Sender: "Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman Fanfic" From: Leanne Shawler Subject: Begging for nominations in certain categories Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Hey all ... Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" I was putting together the final list of nominations today ... and I have a number of categories where a whole bunch of stories are nominated once ... and I have a fifth (or a third, fourth and fifth) slot to fill! And even after dropping stories because they're nominees for other categories, I still have too many! So aside from going for personal favourites (now that wouldn't be fair!) -- perhaps you could all (even those who have sent in nominations already!!) send in suggestions (preferably stories *not* by Zoomway, Pam Jernigan, Debby Stark, Chris Mulder, Sheila Harper and Demi -- as you can guess they've been popular choices, but it's making it difficult to get other suggestions in!) Thanks to everyone who's helped out so far: The "refined" categories list is now: Best Comedy (I gotta narrow 12 stories down for that last spot somehow!) Best Tearjerker (trying to narrow down 6 for the last spot) Best NextGen (narrowing down from 6 for 2 spots) Best Alternate Beginnings (I only have 3 stories nominated for this category total) Best Early Years (narrowing down 5 stories for 2 spots) Best Music/Poem Adaptation (turns out one of the noms is not in the archive!) Best In-Betweenie (7 stories to go into 4 slots) Best Deathfic (6 stories for 3 slots) If anyone has any brilliant ideas about how to narrow it down even further, aside from getting more nominations, I'd love to hear it! Would it help to see who the contenders are? Thoughts? Leanne PS. New S5 episode tomorrow! Yep, just like Lois's sister Lucy, I only delurk when I want something ;-> I am looking for a screen capture from the beginning of We Have a Lot to Talk About, when Lois and Clark are arguing just after the rainstorm, preferably one where they are facing each other, right around when Lois decides that "you know what, I *am* mad!" Since Barb, the screen capture goddess, has pulled up stakes, I thought I'd try here. If you have this screen capture and can e-mail it to me (NOT THE LIST) by tomorrow afternoon, I'd be much obliged. My address is agmondelli@stthomas.edu and I can accept most kinds of graphics as attached files. Please make sure you send it only to me; I wouldn't want Zoom and/or Farah to have to hurt anyone ;-> Re-engage lurk mode... ==Alyssa in St. Paul== (agmondelli@stthomas.edu)(AlyssaM on the IRC) Webmistress, Tempus Expeditions - http://www.tempus.simplenet.com Home of the Fortress of Insanity and Lois & Clark Season 5 "What's less than square one? Maybe I'm tired and feeling dense tonight, but I think I got lost somewhere about how you are formatting this. Oh, and by including the titles above, I'm putting in an extra plug for those stories. Louette's is one of my all time favorites! She wrote some other good ones too, but I can't remember the titles. (Her e-mail address has changed since that was written, I believe. Let me know if you need it.) --Laurie
